Directorate General of Health Services
Greetings from V2020 India!

Dear Delegate,
The control of childhood blindness is a high priority area. International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) dedicated this year World Sight Day for "Vision for Children". Various strategies to achieve this goal have been outlined during the course of several National and International Workshops over the past few years. In tune with the global call, Government of India in its XI Five Year Plan (2007-2012), had highlighted establishing 50 pediatric eye care centres by the end of the plan period. That Government of India has taken cognizance of the growing problem of childhood blindness and suggested appropriate steps in its plan of action, is considered as a major step towards eliminating childhood blindness from the country. However, there is still a long way to go.
