Twenty five years since its beginning, Aravind Eye Hospital's transition from an 11 bedded hospital to a broad spectrum of diverse activities in eye care services, patient care activities, teaching, training, research, policy advocacy, capacity building, production of ophthalmic supplies and publications has seen it evolve as the conglomerate -the Aravind Eye Care System (AECS). It is established under the auspices of the Govel Trust, a registered, not for profit charitable trust.
Building successful partnerships has been the cornerstone to the growth of the institution. Much of what Aravind has accomplished has been through partnerships with the community and collaborations with the Government, Universities and International Non-Governmental Organisations. Through these partnerships Aravind seeks to spread the concept of High volume High quality Low cost care in order to address the large need that exists in the community today for eye care services. AECS will continue to grow expand and in turn help other institutions to progress and expand their services.
